Leahy’s was inspirational for a lot of writers, artists, and musicians like Charlie Musselwhite. He wrote in the liner notes of his 2002 album One Night in America…
Where I grew up, if I went out the back gate I was in Leahy’s Trailer Court. I had a lot of friends there and hung out there a lot. Itinerant-type people were always passing through. There were carnival people, too. And there was a lot of music. Growing up in Memphis. I had people like Johnny and Dorsey Burnette across the street, and Dusty Rhodes around the corner. I used to see Johnny Cash driving by all the time in his Thunderbird.
